An Affidavit is the credibility of a fact on oath. This “means of certification” can be found in various legal matters and is regulated in more detail by law. The declaration is usually made with the date and signature of the declarant.
Affidavits are frequently used when a person with (former) foreign citizenship dies. In this case, the probate judge of the competent district court requires, among other things, a declaration of the legal heirs. This declaration is usually made by the spouse, descendants or other relatives. An Affidavit may also be necessary if you are a foreigner and want your spouse and/or your children to join you in Switzerland. In this case, you have to provide information about your family circumstances in an Affidavit.
